2-SENSOR TECHNOLOGY.
Two-sensor technology guarantees a fully controlled heating process, measuring the temperature of both the inner and outer-part of the workpiece, in real-time. Active and clever control of power on top manages the delta between the two, preventing thermal stress and ensuring consistent, stress-free results with any workpiece.
WHY STRESS-FREE HEATING MATTERS.
TM Induction Heating offers the right tools for stress-free shrink-fit assembly and disassembly activities. Without controlled heating, fast temperature increases introduce a risk for unequal heating — large temperature differences cause thermal and mechanical stress, which can result in irreversible damage. Controlling the maximum ΔT during a heating cycle is crucial to guarantee reliability and lifetime of the part, and the complete application.
SURETHERM 2 SENSOR CONTROL.
Although the programming and algorithms are complex, the basics are simple: the SURETHERM software constantly monitors the actual ΔT and the temperature increase of both sensors, and regulates the induction power output accordingly. When the trend predicts an overshoot of the maximum (set) ΔT, the heater decreases power. It increases again as soon as the trend allows. The result: guaranteed safe, equal and stress-free heating cycles in the shortest possible time.
OPERATION OF 2 SENSOR HEATING MODE.
The operation of 2 Sensor Heating Mode is simple and straightforward on the touchscreen of our SURETHERM series. Plugging in the second sensor enables the mode, and Auto Sensor Select automatically recognizes the outer and inner sensor. During cycle set-up, the required maximum allowed ΔT can be set. Various live parameters are shown: Actual Temperature, Actual Power, Set ΔT, Set Temperature, Actual ΔT, and Total Heating Time. After a completed heating cycle, data can be saved to a USB drive to document quality control.
HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT.
TM Induction Heating was the first and is still the only manufacturer of low-frequency induction heaters with an active and advanced PID control heating mode, using 2 sensors. Hansen Industrial Gearboxes discovered a shortened lifespan of gearwheels used in wind-power gearboxes, caused by uneven heating during shrink-fit assembly. In 2008, Hansen asked TM to develop a heater that could control the ΔT between inside bore and outside part — which after various iterations turned into today’s the 2 Sensor Technology. Integrating this mode into the SURETHERM series confirmed stress-free heating as the correct method, and 2 Sensor Technology remains unique in the market: monitoring ΔT is not the same as controlling it.
